Abstract

This study examines the management of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) in increasing village original income (PADes) in Juai District, Balangan Regency, with case studies in Marias Village and Hukai Village. BUMDes play an important role in utilizing village potential, supporting local economic development, creating employment opportunities, and improving community welfare. Therefore, effective management is essential to ensure that BUMDes can contribute optimally to village development and income generation.
This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving BUMDes managers, village officials, and community members. The study aimed to identify how BUMDes are managed, the obstacles faced in their operations, and the efforts made to improve their performance.
The results indicate that BUMDes management in both villages has not yet been fully optimal in utilizing available village resources to increase village original income. Several obstacles were identified, including limited managerial capacity, insufficient understanding of administrative and financial management procedures, and inconsistent commitment among some BUMDes managers. In addition, the lack of incentives and limited business development strategies have affected the sustainability and performance of BUMDes activities.
To improve BUMDes performance and increase village income, several efforts are needed, including strengthening human resource capacity through training and technical guidance, improving management and administrative practices, expanding business partnerships, and optimizing the utilization of local resources and village potential. With better governance and stronger managerial competence, BUMDes are expected to become more productive, contribute significantly to economic growth, reduce unemployment, and increase village original income in a sustainable manner.
