Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines community participation in the Long-Term Contraception Method Family Planning Program (KB MKJP) in Tambalang Tengah Village and Banyu Tajun Hulu Village, Sungai Pandan District. The research was motivated by the low level of community participation in the program despite its importance in regulating birth spacing and supporting family welfare. This study aimed to analyze the level of community participation, identify the factors influencing participation, and explore efforts to improve involvement in the KB MKJP program.
Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving 10 informants selected through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques.
The findings indicate that community participation in the KB MKJP program remains relatively low. Many residents still have limited knowledge about MKJP, are influenced by misinformation regarding its safety and side effects, and receive insufficient information due to limited socialization activities. Community involvement in providing opinions, support, cooperation, and active participation in program implementation is also still lacking. Factors affecting participation include inadequate socialization, limited access to information media, community perceptions that are not fully open to the program, and the absence of convincing evidence during outreach activities regarding the safety and benefits of MKJP.
The study suggests that family planning counselors increase the frequency and quality of socialization activities and provide more accessible information to the public. In addition, communities are encouraged to actively seek information and consult with health workers to improve their understanding and participation in the KB MKJP program.
